As part of a string of visits to charities in the local area, Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, visited the Human Milk Foundation (HMF) to see the support they provide for babies and mums both locally and nationally.
Ms Collins MP was given a behind-the-scenes tour of the milk bank laboratory, research lab and office in Berkhamsted. The MP also discussed HMF’s fundraising goals.
HMF aims to ensure that every baby has access to human milk by working to provide access to donor milk. The charity is based on three central pillars: science, support and supply.
This is delivered via lactation support, their National Milk Bank Service, and research.
The charity works with 53 hospitals, supporting 20,000 babies thanks to help from 4,000 milk donors, who have provided 17,000 litres of milk.
In a post on Facebook following her visit on Thursday, February 13, Ms Collins MP was full of praise for the charity’s efforts to support babies’ development.
She said: “A fantastic visit to the HMF in Berkhamsted recently! Their incredible work supports babies in need by providing donor milk and vital lactation aid for new parents in need.
“Huge thank you to the team for their incredible work and dedication in helping families to give their babies the best start in life!”
