‘FANTASTIC RESULT’: Audiences become detectives in Kings Langley immersive theatre

Published on: 28th November 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

“Whodunnit?” was the question on everybody’s lips as the Kings Langley Players brought a roaring 1920s mystery to life in a sold-out show packed with secrets, laughter, and – of course – murder!

The audience was transported straight into smoky parlours and shadowed alleyways, immersing themselves by dressing up in flat caps and 1920s dresses for Death at the Distillery.

Director Sally-Anne Rafferty told KINGSnews: “We had the cast mingling with the audience before the performances began, and dropping clues. I was surprised how involved some of the audience got – grilling the cast any time they could and taking detailed notes throughout!”

Described as “fantastic”, the show brought together the Players’ hard work with the help of members from the Kings Langley Service Club.

Sally-Anne added: “[The club] had not performed with us before, so it was all new and a little nerve-wracking, but the team gelled brilliantly, everyone worked hard, and the result was fantastic. We’re all hoping to repeat the experience next year.”

Feedback from the audience was overwhelmingly positive and people enjoyed getting involved in solving the mystery.

Sally-Anne said: “We had planned moments where the guests could question the suspects, but some didn’t wait for an invitation.

“I was amazed at how the cast handled it. One actor in particular had me crying with laughter with his response – it was pure theatre magic.”

Looking ahead, the Players are preparing a festive treat with a-new adaption of A Christmas Carol. The show will run from December 11 to 13, with a matinee performance on Saturday.
