A carer from Tring has released a trilogy of books inspired by her close relationship with her client, with the fourth set to be published soon.
Roselee Guinness has cared for 19-year-old Frankie for the last six years. Frankie lives with Rett syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects brain development and results in severe mental and physical disability.
In 2020, after experiencing several rejections, Roselee published her first book, My Doodle is a Little Different, with Austin Macauley Publishers. Another two titles followed, My Doodle Goes on Holiday and My Doodle Turns Into a Mermaid.
Roselee created the stories to show that despite living with a disability, Doodle and her friend Rosie can still go on fun adventures. The pair go on several journeys, from swimming in the sea to going on holiday, with the books aiming to show that despite living with Rett syndrome just like Frankie, Doodle can live life like everyone else.
Speaking to TRINGnews, Roselee said: “I’m dyslexic, so I struggled with English at school, but I’ve always been creative and would love to carry on writing!”
Roselee has just signed a contract for the fourth instalment of the series.
She continued: “Frankie is like the little sister I never had. She is such a princess and loves people talking about the book! She is non-verbal, and people see her and feel sorry for her, but it’s not like that at all.
“I think she has to put up with me more than anything! These books have been a real dream for Frankie and everyone.”
