FA Cup dream over for Woods after replay defeat

Published on: 12th September 2018   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Uncategorized

Northwood FC manager Dean Barker bemoaned his side’s slow start to the game as his young team went out of the FA Cup at Kings Langley in their FA Cup First Qualifying Round replay.

Northwood were behind after just five minutes and three down inside the first half four so Barker’s side were always facing an uphill battle.

The visitors regrouped at half time and made it more of a contest in the second period. Hopes of a comeback were raised after Miguel Lopez De Matos found the back of the net five minutes after the restart. However Northwood were unable to reduce the arrears.

After the game, Barker summed up his thoughts on Twitter.

He tweeted: “Slow start to the game and it cost us. Playing against a very experienced side you have to be better from set pieces and we wasn’t on the night. Second half much better hitting the woodwork again for the 4th time in two games. Good luck to Steve, Darren and everyone at KLFC .”

Kings Langley progress and were due to face the winners of the Lewes v Farnborough re-match.

Fans also tweeted their support for Northwood’s efforts following Barker’s tweet.

John Joyce tweeted: “Thought we were excellent second half and with a bit of luck could have got back into that game completely. Thought Matos was outstanding and linked well with Matt Cooper. They were a big side which is hard to defend against but need to be better in the box.”
