Wealdstone FC will entertain a replay to advance to the FA Cup First Round after conceding a late equaliser against Maidenhead United at York Road this afternoon (October 19).
Maidenhead, who are an established National League side, were in good form in the lead up to the fixture as were their opponents.
An early second half goal for forward Ross Lafayette was not enough as Maidenhead scored late to send the tie to a replay.
Wealdstone’s captain Jerome Okimo was the closest to breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute when he flicked Daniel Green’s corner onto the far-post.
The first-half ended goalless, but the game burst into life six minutes into the second period when Lafayette beautifully brought the ball down and slotted across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner. 1-0 to the Ruislip side.
The game was extremely tight with both sides having positive flurries of possession, but neither side could find the second goal.
That was the case until Upward latched onto an initially good save from Aston Oxborough and put the ball into the bottom corner.
Heartbreak for The Stones who would have found themselves in the first round of the FA Cup.
The Stones will play their replay against Maidenhead on Tuesday (October 22) at home.
