There were emotional scenes at Kings Langley Football Club this afternoon as supporters and players gathered to pay tribute to Matt Allcock.

More than 1,000 fans saw Langley take on Staines Town in the Southern League Premier Division. Club officials revealed that the attendance was 1.072.

Before the action got underway, first team football secretary Derry Edgar paid a heartfelt tribute to Matt in front of supporters in the Heatfix stand with Matt’s daughters Evie-May and Helena Jane looking bravely on.

He said: “Matt was the beating heart of the family that is Kings Langley Football Club and we will all miss him so much. We will miss his humour, a humour that could lighten the darkest days of those whose lives he touched.

“We will miss his generosity, a generosity that would always see him find a way of helping a person in need.

“We will miss his devotion to this football club. A devotion that more than anything has inspired the spirit and camaraderie that exists amongst us today.

“Most of all we will miss him.”

Kings Langley won the match 3-1
