A couple in their 80s were left shaken after being assaulted and burgled in their Watford home.
Detectives investigating the aggravated burglary in Watford are appealing for information and witnesses.
It happened just before 9.30pm on Tuesday, February 19, when three men forced entry into the address on Rickmansworth Road.
They used an unidentified weapon to assault the victim, a man in his 80s, before throwing an unknown liquid over him. They also assaulted his wife, but she was physically uninjured.
They then took a safe which contained jewellery, as well as a number of mobile phones and a handbag containing a purse, before leaving the scene in a small grey car.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for a cut to his head and he has since been discharged.
Detective sergeant Chris Parperi, from the Watford Local Crime Unit, said: “This burglary has left the victims understandably shaken but thankfully they were not seriously hurt. I want to reassure the local community that we are doing all that we can to trace those responsible.
“We are currently following a number of enquiries but would be very keen to speak to anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time stated, or saw a grey vehicle travelling at high speed.
“If you can help please make contact with us by either using online web chat, reporting information online at herts.police.uk/report or calling the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 41/16540/19.”
