Rickmansworth Park, Yorke Mead, Malvern Way and Little Green schools formed the Croxley contingent at this year’s Youth Council event at Watersmeet in Rickmansworth.
Author and musician Rilla Paterson kicked off the event on Wednesday, June 26, with a recital of stories from her musical play, Child of the Future. She was welcomed to the stage by youth and eco-council members from Little Green Junior School.
Representatives from Sustainable Three Rivers then engaged the pupils with thought-provoking questions about the origins of their food.
Following discussions at the Youth Council in December, the children worked on projects in their school groups. These were then presented at the event in June, with Maple Cross School voted the winner for organising an assembly on energy saving, conducting community litter picks, and earning the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with distinction.
Katherine Simpson, committee and electoral services manager, said: “The projects presented today reflect the commitment of our young people to a sustainable future. Their enthusiasm and innovative ideas inspire us all to take action.”
