ECO IMPROVEMENTS: £2million grant to help make Three Rivers homes energy efficient

Homes in the Three Rivers area could be made more energy efficient following a partnership between Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) and a housing association.

TRDC and Thrive Homes have teamed up to use a £2.19million government grant from the Department for Energy, Security and Net Zero to help bring 155 homes across the area up to environmental standards.

Homes rated as the least energy efficient in the district will be upgraded with measures such as wall insulation and solar panels.

Councillor Sarah Nelmes, Leader of TRDC, said: “This funding presents a vital opportunity to tackle fuel poverty and improve the homes of our residents.

“The investment in energy efficiency upgrades to local homes under the second phase of our social housing decarbonisation fund scheme will help residents save money on their energy bills, while making their homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

“Meanwhile, with home energy use accounting for 28.8 per cent of the district’s greenhouse gas emissions, the funding will also help reduce the district’s contribution to the climate emergency and delivers progress towards making homes net-zero ready. It’s a win-win for all involved.”
