A Maple Cross farm is being restored to its former glory and taking a bold new direction with an eco-friendly and sustainable approach to its work.
Woodoaks Farm is a 300-acre location based near Maple Cross, and until recently, it has been owned by the Finlay family, who have now sold it to organic charity, the Soil Association Trust, who now have the ambition of turning it into a food and farming hub for the community.
Rose Lewis, the programme manager from the Soil Association, spoke to RICKYnews about the idea behind the farm.
“We want to provide the local community with healthy, nourishing food grown on site, and also provide them with an opportunity to engage with the area’s protection and restoration.
We’re planning all sorts of habitat restoration projects, including hedgerow and tree planting, and we really want the community involved in that.”
Restoration has been coming along nicely, with the farm’s 16th century barn hopefully soon to be ready to become a perfect location for events.
Business is already thriving on the site, with a local artist, carpenter and brewing company already situated on the farm.
