ECO ACTION: More than 70 tonnes of rubbish cleared in large-scale clean-up in Kings Langley

More than 70 tonnes of rubbish have been cleared from roads near Kings Langley thanks to a council operation.

As part of the Great British Spring Clean, Dacorum Borough Council’s (DBC) Clean, Safe and Green team cleared up the A41 from Junction 20 of the M25 for Kings Langley to the roundabout at Tring.

Tackling both sides of the carriageway, the crew of 20 operatives collected five tonnes of litter over seven days, while two heavy goods vehicle sweepers collected a further 69 tonnes of rubbish and debris from the road.

DBC stated that due to people continuing to drop litter from their cars, it is necessary to carry out these large-scale clean-ups. Approximately £1billion of tax payers’ money is spent in the UK every year cleaning up after people who throw rubbish out of their vehicles.

According to a study by Keep Britain Tidy, the most common littered items are cigarette butts, sweet wrappers, fast food packaging, and bottles and cans (both soft drink and alcoholic).
