Harrow Council is increasing its support to struggling families with the cost of food during the school holidays to help ease the squeeze of the cost-of-living crisis.
Parents in Harrow with a school-aged child in receipt of free school meals will continue to receive a holiday voucher from their child’s school. These will be provided from October 2022 through to Easter 2023 and will include a £10 top up for the Christmas period.
The move was made possible using funding from the government’s Household Support Fund, enabling the council to increase the value of the vouchers from £3 to £3.50 per day to reflect the rise in food prices.
Councillor Hitesh Karia, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “We’re facing a global cost-of-living crisis, with rising prices, especially for energy.
“We want Harrow to be a place where those in need are supported, so we are helping Harrow families through the voucher scheme to make the school holidays just that little bit easier for those least well-off parents.”
Free school meals are available to families of children aged 5 to 18 years old, in receipt of benefits. For more information, visit www.harrow.gov.uk/schools-learning/free-school-meals
