DYNAMIC DUO: Father and son duo from Hemel Hempstead join same football team

Published on: 16th February 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Very few footballers get to play with a family member of any description, but to see a father and son share the pitch is incredibly rare.

But, when former pupils at the Hemel Hempstead School (HHS) Ronnie Henry and his son Louie played for Potters Bar Town FC (PBTFC) against Canvey Island FC on Tuesday, January 7, a special moment almost no player gets to experience became reality for the duo.

It was made even better that their first game together was won 1-2 by PBTFC, with Louie Henry winning the Player of the Match award for his performance.

Ronnie told HEMELnews: “I never thought I’d do it; I’d like to do as many games together as possible. He’s played really well.

“It’s been the highlight of my career.”

Ronnie, aged 41, is Stevenage FC’s record appearance holder, having played 502 times for the club, and with Louie, 17, is now a part of the academy there. Louie signed on loan for PBTFC in January, having played for Bar last season.

Louie said: “It’s nice to be in the spotlight a bit, people get a bit interested and it’s been good to have people watching.”

“Everyone knows each other in that dressing room, it’s a good group.”

Ronnie watching his son play there convinced him to join PBTFC himself in August 2024.

Louie said: “I wasn’t driving at the time so he came to training and games, he liked the club a lot, it was a no brainer to be honest, he wanted to play with me, and he knew I could come back.”

In a post on Instagram, HHS’ PE Department said: “How good is this! Not something you often see!!”
