Plans to demolish an early 20th century home in Chalfont St Peter and replace it with flats have been refused permission on recommendation of Buckinghamshire Council officers.
The proposal, submitted by Mr and Mrs Stadler was for the ‘demolition of house and annex and erection of four apartments’ at Northwold, 33 Austenway in Chalfont St Peter.
The application was met with a backlash from residents and councillors, who cited local concerns such as overdevelopment, bulk and scale and inappropriate development in an area of special character.
Chalfont St. Peter Parish Council said: “We believe it is totally out of keeping with these character areas, and for its neighbours it will be overbearing and affect their privacy.
It will not harmonise with neighbouring dwellings or be of similar bulk and massing as stated in the Design & Access statement. We believe that it could be as much as 170% larger than the current property.”
The applications agent has been contacted for comment.
