DRIVING DANGERS: Officers tackle illegal parking outside Bushey schools following complaints

Published on: 19th July 2022   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Police in Bushey have worked with schools across town to combat dangerous and illegal parking following complaints from residents.

Over the last three months officers have been speaking to parents who have parked dangerously and/or illegally during drop off and pick up times.

The patrols have been carried out outside Ashfield Junior School, Bushey Meads School, Merry Hill School and Little Reddings Primary School.

Drivers were given words of advice and in some cases fixed penalty notices of £30 were issued.

PCSO Sarah Webb said: “We know that school drop off and pick up times are busy and the roads around these schools can become congested. However, it’s not acceptable for parents to park their vehicles obstructing the pavements. It can be dangerous, putting the children who attend these schools and others at risk and doesn’t set a good example to our young people about being considerate of others.

“I would urge parents to leave in plenty of time, so they don’t make rushed decisions about where they park. If you can’t walk to the school, you might want to consider parking further away and walking some of the distance to avoid the congestion.

“We will continue to work with schools to address this issue.”
