A driver who ignored a red ‘x’ sign on the M25 near Kings Langley is set to pay nearly £1,000 after trying to contest the fine in court.
On December 13, 2018 nearly 300 vehicles were caught contravening a red x on the M25 near junction 20.
Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Road Policing Unit (BCH) confirmed the sign had been put in place to protect roadworkers who had been carrying out urgent highway repairs.
After identifying the drivers, the majority incurred a £100 fine with three points on their license but one driver contested the matter in December 2019 where a three-point endorsement was imposed with £420 in fines and costs.
Now after appealing that ruling in crown court, a judge has imposed the point endorsement along with costs amounting to nearly £1,000.
Following the ruling on April 13, the BCH tweeted: “Please do not drive under a red “x” displayed on a motorway gantry. They are set for the safety of everyone using and working on the road.”
