Staff at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore have found more than one reason to celebrate recently, as the hospital was shortlisted for one award and ranked ninth in a global ranking of orthopaedic centres.

RNOH staff recently found out they were shortlisted in this year’s Nursing Times Workforce Awards.

The RNOH was shortlisted in the Workforce Team of the Year category for their cocktail approach to improving nursing workforce recruitment and retention challenges service evaluation.

Claire Hynes, who started as the hospital’s new nursing workforce lead in October said that she looks forward to working with the team.

She said: “It is absolutely wonderful to see that all the hard work Temi Magbagbeola, former nursing workforce lead, the divisional heads of nursing and all the teams involved in these events have enabled the RNOH to be recognised and shortlisted for this award.”

On top of this incredible nomination, the hospital was ranked ninth in a global ranking of orthopaedic centres generated by Newsweek magazine.

The hospital was ranked number one in the UK, recognising the crucial work the RNOH carries out to help patients with some of the most complex and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

Professor Paul Fish, interim chief executive of the RNOH, said: “We each know the fantastic care and innovation that takes place here. This recognition, along with other metrics such as 3rd best staff and patient experience in London and a Care Quality Commission good rating, is a recognition of our staff and the contribution they make.”

The Newsweek 2021 World’s Best Specialized Hospital project is based on a global survey which saw 40,000 medical experts take part.
