Bushey-born golfer Callum Shinkwin celebrated another strong performance this month after his fifth place finish at The Open.
Shinkwin tackled the Dutch KLM Open in Amsterdam on September 12 to 15, and impressed his playing partner Sergio Garcia, who won the tournament.
The Moor Park pro gave the Spaniard a run for his money during rounds one to three.
He was tied at 15 under par until the final stage where a double bogey on hole 10 squandered his chances.
Shinkwin told Sporting Life: “I’ve been there a few times this year already, been there in the past as well but haven’t quite finished it off but hopefully what I do today will help me in the long run.
“I was matching Sergio shot for shot. As much as everyone says don’t watch your playing partner, you have to watch your playing partner no matter who it is, and Sergio was hitting his straight and was hitting close. If I matched him, I was doing well.”
Lee Partridge, a friend of Shinkwin, said he put in a good performance.
He commented: “Shinkwin embraced the challenged to shoot an impressive 6 under par to stay in contention to try and claim his maiden European Tour win.
“Although disappointing not to win the event it has been another very productive and positive week for Callum Shinkwin as it moves him up the order of merit to 106 for the end of season climax and the Race to Dubai.”
