Hemel Hempstead residents are becoming more and more concerned about their dogs safety after many people reported suspicious incidents on social media.
Dog thefts are increasing in Hertfordshire and Hemel Hempstead residents are very alert.
One person took to social media and said: “I was out walking my dog in Adeyfield and a black car pulled up behind me with an older man and woman in it. They asked how old my dog was.
“He then started saying why aren’t you talking to me. I ignored him and he eventually drove off. Could be wrong and it may have been innocent but didn’t feel like that….please be careful.”
Karen Harding co-ordinator for Dog Lost Hertfordshire has some advice for local dog walkers.
She said: “Don’t leave your dog unattended in a public place – Everyone at DogLost actively raises awareness around the risk of leaving pets outside public places – including shops – even if an owner thinks their dog would never leave with someone they don’t know.
“It’s always worth confirming with the microchipper whether they will register the details or whether the owner will need to do so.”
