A second cat in Garston has been killed as a result of a dog attack.
The recent attack occurred at around 3.15pm on Rushton Avenue on Saturday, October 19. Officers attended but were unable to locate the dog.
In last month’s Garston News, we reported that beloved family cat Frank was killed by a dog on Harris Road – just around the corner from Rushton Avenue – on Sunday, September 8. Police believe that the same dog killed both cats.
A message posted to the Gaston Resident Facebook read: “Warning, the dog is on the loose with a cat in its mouth!”
Concerned locals responded to the post with 123 comments.
Recently speaking to Garston News, Paul Brown, Frank’s owner, said: “I was told two weeks ago that the dog was seized and was being destroyed. Now I hear that didn’t happen.”
In a statement posted on Facebook, Watford Police said: “We are aware of two separate incidents where a cat has been killed by a dog in the Watford area. We believe the dog involved is a black and white coloured Akita-type breed.
“Since these reports were made to us, officers have been investigating and have conducted a number of enquiries, including interviewing a suspect, taking witness accounts, and conducting search warrants to try and trace the location of the dog.
“We have also been working closely with partner police forces and the RSPCA. Local officers will be in the area conducting further enquiries today.
“At this current time, the dog is not believed to be in the area. However, if anyone sees the dog, please contact police immediately via 999 and do not approach the dog.”
