104-year-old Watford resident, Joyce Lambert, has recently been carrying out some shopping at intu in the town – potentially making her Britain’s oldest shopper.
At the end of last year, Joyce celebrated her 104th birthday doing what she has loved for more than 60 years – visiting her local shopping centre.
Joyce, who has lived in the same house in Watford for over 60 years, loves to visit her favourite shops in the shopping centre, including John Lewis and Debenhams.
To celebrate her birthday and to thank her for her years of shopping, retailers at the shopping centre hosted a thank you party and afternoon tea for Joyce and her daughter, Joy, at Loaf & Bloom in Debenhams.
Joyce was also gifted with a £104 gift card, alongside a private parking space and a chaperone, who walked her and her daughter to the party, after presenting her with a bunch of flowers.
With intu shopping centres attracting over 400 million customers throughout the year, this lovely touch was greatly appreciated by Joyce and her daughter.
Vicki Costello, intu Watford’s general manager, described her as an ‘’incredible and remarkable woman’’.
She said: ‘’Joyce is full of life, laughter and an energy that is so infectious and inspiring. We are honoured to have met her, listened to her stories from the past and tell her about the exciting changes that are happening.’’
Joyce gave her appreciation for the centre’s new £180 million development and was delighted to learn of the new cinema, restaurants and Hollywood Bowl, which opened on the same day as her visit.
Joyce is now planning on visiting the Hollywood Bowl with her family as she said she would be delighted to ‘’give it a go’’.
