This historical photo isn’t a photo at all, but an engraving, dating from 1851.
It depicts a group of Rickmansworth men drinking beer straight from the barrel.
Rickmansworth currently has around 10 drinking establishments, with some, such as the Coach & Horses, dating back to at least 1722.
There are many long-lost and sorely missed pubs in the area, with names such as the Swan Hotel, the Millhouse Tavern and the Batchworth Arms having been consigned to the history books.
The number of pubs throughout England and Wales has been declining for many years now, with fewer than 40,000 recorded in 2022.
Do you have any photographs or memories of Rickmansworth’s long-lost pubs, or any other historic photos of the town? If so, please send them to us at newsdesk@mynewsmag.co.uk and they could feature in a future edition of the magazine.
