The newly elected mayor of St Albans, councillor Anthony Rowlands, was one of around 2,000 people who took part in the 41st St Albans Half Marathon.
It was the 39th time that Mayor Rowlands has completed the event, which started and finished in Verulamium Park on Sunday, June 11 – one of the hottest days of 2023 so far.
More than 5,000 runners and walkers took part in activities on the day, which included a five-kilometre race and a family fun run.
After the 13-mile run, Mayor Rowlands said: “That was one of the toughest runs I can remember!
“I would particularly like to thank the hundreds of volunteer marshals, medical workers, highways staff, police and Scouts for making this event possible, with many working for hours in the intense heat.
“The half marathon is one of the most popular community events held around the district and I am pleased to have supported it once again.”
