A Pinner resident’s dreams have come true after he shared his dishes on national television, making it to the quarter-finals of Masterchef.
Rishi Nanavati, 27, works as a dentist alongside pursuing his passion for cooking and efforts to make vegetarian cooking accessible for everyone.
This month Rishi appeared on the hit show to debut his cooking for the judges, receiving high praise for his dishes before he was knocked out in the quarter-finals.
Speaking to PinnerNews, Rishi said he had been interested in cooking since he was a child.
He said: “I’ve been cooking for as long as I can remember, when I was around seven or eight, I started helping around the kitchen.
“Then I started doing my own recipe development when I was 12 as a hobby and have continued since.
“It’s my creative outlook, I come home and shut off from thinking about teeth and dentists.”
Rishi added that throughout his time on the show he only used vegetarian ingredients, something he believes the show had never seen before.
He said: “I’ve never seen another vegetarian on the show, I applied last April and never thought I would hear anything back. I had never seen veggie food on the show ever in 18 years.
“I realised there was a space for modern vegetarian food, I have always been vegetarian, and I continue it for ethical reasons.
“They loved the first few dishes I did as they were things they hadn’t really experienced before.”
Rishi is planning to work part-time in dentistry so he can dedicate more time to making his dishes more accessible for people to try modern vegetarian food.
