A professional singer, singing teacher and former TV judge on BBC’s All Together Now has had her working life completely changed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Simone Kaye, from Radlett, is a professional singer who usually gigged around three or four times a week at private functions and public events and now has to rely on online tutoring to receive any sort of income.
Simone told RadlettNews: “The music community has completely come to a standstill with venues shutting down. I’m basically unemployed for the time being but we’re all trying to do the best we can with what we’ve got.
“My normal day-to-day week has completely changed. I’m now just trying to stay busy and productive, whether that be online tutoring or doing a gig via live streaming, where people can make donations for different singing requests.”
Simone has performed alongside and supported some of the biggest names in the industry such as George Michael, Take That and Ariana Grande.
Many musicians are in a similar position to Simone, but the community are trying to get together to support each other during this difficult time.
Simone has over 15 years of experience in teaching and singing, and she is offering a 30-minute free introduction to new students, be it from a beginner’s level or professionals.
Simone continued: “I’m getting ready for my first Facebook live stream but who knows how well that will do. I’m working on a lot of projects with different people but it’s unclear how we can make money yet.
“For now, I’m just trying to reach out of my bubble. People will have a lot of spare time on their hands and it’s a perfect chance to start a new hobby. Music is a huge source of entertainment for so many people.”
