Busted singer Matt Willis shared details about his addiction journey in parenting podcast Happy Mum Happy Baby last month.
The musician, who lives in Radlett, told host Giovanna Fletcher how parenthood was a “turning point” in his life.
Matt is married to The Voice UK presenter Emma Willis, who he shares three children with.
When his daughter Isabelle was born, he tried to stay clean but relapsed after six months, skipping important events like Emma’s birthday.
He recalls missing his daughters first crawl while he was out at a pub in Watford with strangers. When his wife told him the news, it “hit him like a tonne of bricks”.
He said: “Emma told me that I missed Isabelle crawling for the first time […]. I was in a pub in Watford with strangers and then in a car with strangers and I missed that. It dawned on me that I was going to be a terrible father and it really hit me.”
Matt also discussed his childhood in the episode, describing it as a “difficult time” in his life.
