A Berkhamsted-based community choir will raise funds to fix the roof of an 800-year-old church at an upcoming concert.
The Chiltern Chamber Choir has been going strong since 1976 and is composed of singers from the town and surrounding villages. The choir’s 50 to 60 current members perform three regular concerts every year.
This year, the singers will hold their summer concert at St Peter’s Church on Church Lane, Berkhamsted, on Saturday, June 29.
At the concert, the choir will sing a varied programme of English and European choral works spanning more than 500 years, including pieces by Britten, Monteverdi, Fauré, Wesley, Rachmaninoff, Gabrielli, Brahms and Parry.
All of the money raised at the concert will go to a good local cause. The church desperately needs to repair its roof, as rainwater has been leaking in and damaging historic monuments and the fabric of the building. The earliest parts of the church date back to at least 1200.
Tickets for the concert cost £15 per person and include a complimentary glass of wine.
