Two players from Amersham & Chiltern Rugby Club have teamed up with their friends to raise more than £7,500 for Crohn’s & Colitis UK.
Ollie Choules and Joe Batt, who both play for the club’s Senior Squad, joined six of their friends to cycle from Anfield Stadium in Liverpool to the Queen’s Head in Chesham between July 27 and July 30.
The group decided to support the charity after they witnessed a good friend of theirs suffer with Crohn’s disease, motivating them to raise money and awareness of the charity.
Speaking to AmershamNews, Ollie said: “Last September, a friend of ours was really struggling with Crohn’s disease and had a period of being in hospital.
“It was mentioned in the pub about doing something and raising some money. The challenge came at a poignant time as he had gone back into hospital at the time we were doing it.”
Ollie added that everyone has been so generous with donations and the group hope to do something similar again.
He said: “We are all pretty novice cyclists, and some took the training a bit more seriously than others. It was a bit of a wake-up call when we arrived in Stoke on the first evening with sore legs.
“We worked well as a team and pulled each other through it. It was such a lovely thing to do and we will probably do it again.”
