Four students from Rickmansworth School took part in the CyberFirst Girls Competition last month.
The competition is run by the National Cyber Security Centre and aims to support girls who are interested in cyber security careers.
The online qualifier took place from November 21 to 30, as RICKYnews went to print. If the students qualify for the regional and independent finals, they will compete again on February 4, 2023. The awards ceremony will take place in March.
The competition included content from the computer science syllabus from the National Curriculum and Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence.
It also contained advanced cyber topics which are not covered in traditional education.
The aim was to stretch the students’ lateral thinking and additional cyber knowledge.
Mrs Blair, executive assistant to the headteacher, said: “The students do it because they enjoy problem-solving and programming and they are enjoying working as a team.”
The pupils are part of the school’s computing club, where they use the Cyber Explorers website to refine their coding skills.
