CUP EXIT: Hemel Hempstead Town knocked out of FA Cup against Hampton and Richmond Borough

Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s FA Cup journey came to an end yesterday afternoon when they were narrowly beaten at home by Hampton and Richmond Borough.

An early goal from Niko Muir was enough for the away side to progress into the FA Cup First Round Proper in a game that saw both sides see a man sent off in the final 10 minutes.

It was the perfect start for Hampton and Richmond Borough when a poor Hemel clearance fell straight to the path of Muir, who finished brilliantly into the bottom corner.

Muir almost doubled their advantage on the 38th minute when he found space on the edge of the penalty area but an excellent save from Dean Snedker denied him.

Snedker was brought into action again just before half time when Minhas’ strike looked goal bound, but the goalkeeper dived to his left to keep the ball out.

Just after the hour mark Hampton had their best chance to go two ahead when Hill lobbed Snedker after being played through but luckily for the Tudors the post kept it out.

After a lot of the away side’s pressure, Hemel started to have some chances of their own in the final 20 minutes, with Ajayi and Olomowewe both going close to finding an equaliser.

Hampton and Richmond Borough were summoned to 10 men in the 80th minute after Smith was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Bateman on the edge of the area.

However, the man advantage didn’t last too long with Pennell also receiving a second yellow in the 88th minute.

The away side held on in the end to progress to the FA Cup First Round Proper, with Hemel still trying to find their feet in the early stages of the season.
