VOCAL VOCATION: Abbots Langley church announces new musical director

Published on: 27th August 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

An accomplished West End performer and University of Cambridge graduate has joined an Abbots Langley church as their new director of music.

Marianne Ryall has become a part of St Lawrence’s in the village and has taken charge of both the adult choir there and the junior choir.

A Chorleywood native, Marianne is a recent graduate from Robinson College at Cambridge, where she sung in several of the university’s choirs and studied music.

She plays an incredible five instruments in total, as well as being a gifted singer, with her also having acted in several musicals in London’s West End. She has a love of all kinds of song, from showtunes to the classical Anglican choral tradition.

The Reverend Dr Peter Waddell said: “Whilst we’ve always had a strong choral tradition at St. Lawrence, it was a bit battered by the pandemic, so we’re thrilled to have strong new leadership to rebuild it and make it better than ever.”

Marianne said: “Outside of my own performance and recording work, I teach/run classes for Mini Mozart and Stagecoach, trying to do as many things locally as possible and engage with the Herts musical community, as this is how I got my start into the profession!”

The church will be running a ‘Bring and Sing’ event on Saturday, September 30 from 1pm to try and encourage the community to join in regardless of ability. It will be a day of rehearsal followed by a mini concert.
