CRUCIAL WIN: St Albans move out of relegation zone at Welling United

Published on: 26th October 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: St Albans City F.C

St Albans City fans can breathe a sigh of relief today (October 26) as their side beat Welling United 1-0 away from home.

The Saints have had miserable form since the beginning of the season but this crucial win means the club moves out of the relegation zone.

St Albans showed real pace and desire to take the lead at Park View Road, and in the first 20 minutes, they had the better chances. Midfielder Joe Howe, who was injured in a tackle, was forced to be subbed off on the half hour mark.

In the 42nd minute, Albert Adu stormed into the area and fired a curling ball past the Welling goalkeeper into the back of the net, putting The Saints into the lead.

The London side made a double substitution at half time in an attempt to create more in the second half but were restricted to lobbing crosses forward.

But the home side continued to press The Saints in an attempt to steal a draw, but the defending from St Albans, which has been a massive improvement on last week’s defeat to Bath City, was able to stop all attacks.

Now currently in 20th position in the National League South, St Albans’ next game is at home to third place Havant and Waterlooville.
