GOOD INNINGS: Newly formed Kings Langley women’s cricket team win first tournament

Kings Langley Cricket Club’s (KLCC) new women’s team have won the first tournament they have entered since their formation five months ago.

After the idea of starting a women’s side was broached on the Kings Langley Matters Facebook group in January, a team was quickly put together.

Since that first training session in the middle of winter, numbers have continued to grow and the players have continued to improve, thanks to brilliant coaching from team leader Amy Price.

Late last month, the team were offered a spot to compete in an indoor cricket tournament organised by Herts Cricket on Monday, March 25.

Despite their relative freshness to the sport, the women were named the winners of the tournament after winning all three matches against their opponents, Harpenden, Hertford and Radlett.

A spokesperson for KLCC said: “To continue this success, we are now planning more indoor training sessions, where we will work on the basic skills of batting, bowling and fielding.

“This will allow the ladies who have already been at training to continue their development and for anyone new to join the fun.

“You don’t need any previous experience of playing cricket, just a sense of fun and a willingness to give it a go.”
