Despite the capricious weather, there were an incredible 151 entries to the annual Bovingdon Gardeners Summer Show this year.
This was a similar number to previous editions of the show, despite fewer individual entrants this time around.
It was a good day for Debbie Oastler and Bovingdon Horticultural Society (BHS) committee member Mike Leon, who saw the most success. Both won two prizes each for their sweet peas and broad beans respectively. Mike also won the BHS Cup.
Other notable entries include Mavis Lawrence winning the Banksian Medal, Lloyd Moore winning the Douglas King Cup, Claire Winter and Gillian Johansson winning the Mollie Aronson Cup, Anne Tavener winning the Crawley Cup, and Ann Stephen winning best floral art exhibit.
The Small Challenge certificates were won by Sophie in the over-eights category and Zara Johansson in the under-eights category.
Categories at this year’s event included vegetables, flowers, pot plants, floral art, fruits, preserves, cooking classes, wildflower vases, sweet peas and photography, with some notable entries including an excellent white delphinium flower and some brilliant peas in a pod.
The BHS autumn show is set to take place on Saturday, September 14. To enter or find out more, please visit the BHS website.
