COURAGEOUS CHARLIEE: Berkhamsted pub supports fundraising appeal for young girl following stroke

Published on: 4th March 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Berkhamsted pub will be raising money for the family of one of its staff members, whose seven-year-old sister recently suffered a stroke.

Charliee Salisbury, whose sibling works at The Old Mill in Berkhamsted, lives with Down’s syndrome. She sadly suffered a stroke on Sunday, February 9, which has led to her being paralysed on the left side of her body.

She subsequently had to have a third of her skull removed.

This is not the first time Charliee has shown incredible strength and courage. She had open heart surgery in 2021 and overcame sepsis in 2023.

Danny Salisbury, Charliee’s father, said his daughter has brought happiness to everyone in the community.

Danny is also raising money for home accessibility improvements and to ensure Charliee can receive physiotherapy sessions so she can return to her favourite activities: dancing and singing.

He told BERKHAMSTEDnews: “She’s such a fighter. She’s always smiling and happy.

“She’s absolutely amazing; she brings so much joy to everyone. Her life is dancing and singing every minute of the day; to have that taken from her would be devastating.”

Danny said his wife, Hannah, has had to quit her job to look after Charliee in Great Ormond Street Hospital, which has left financial strain on the family. Working as a delivery driver, Danny’s shifts currently start at 4am.

He said: “I’ve been forced to go back to work, and juggling it all for us has been really tough.”

The Old Mill will be supporting Charliee by putting up posters supporting the fundraiser and providing food at events aiming to raise money for Charliee.

At the time of writing, £5,780 has been raised to support Charliee and her family. To donate, head to www.shorturl.at/qLqv0
