Chalfont St Peter recently featured on an episode of BBC’s Countryfile, as presenters investigated how high groundwater is overwhelming sewage infrastructure and leading to river pollution.
Presenter Joe Crowley met with farmer and chair of the River Chess Association, Paul Jennings, whom CHALFONTS&GERRARDSCROSSnews also interviewed back in March. Knee deep in the River Chess with a net, Paul described a “whole host of revolting sewage fungus” which he retrieved from the rare chalk stream.
Next, Joe headed to Chalfont St Peter to investigate the serious flooding in the village. He spoke to resident Bob Older, who says the flooding was the worst he has witnessed in the 42 years he has lived in the village.
Finally, Joe spoke to Chalfont St Peter parish councillor Anne Marie Vladar, who said: “We’re poisoning our environment.”
Thames Water responded to the programme by saying: “More investment is needed across the entire sector, as infrastructure ages and demand on it increases.”
