Watford Borough Council has unanimously supported a motion calling for Watford stations to be rezoned to Zone 6.
At the moment, Watford stations sit in Zone 7, Zone 8 and Zone W for Watford Junction.
The motion, presented by Callowland councillor Ian Stotesbury, called on the Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor to write to TfL and the London Mayor Sadiq Khan calling on all stations to be placed into Zone 6.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Ian Stotesbury said, ‘At the moment, Watford commuters are being ripped off. Commuters from Epping, which is 16.5 miles from London Liverpool Street, pay on average £1,400 less than Watford commuters who lives 16.5 miles from London Euston.’
‘That simply isn’t fair. For a small place, it simply doesn’t make sense for Watford stations to be split across so many zones. Moving Watford stations into Zone 6 will be fairer and put money back in the pocket of Watford residents’.
Cllr Ian Stotesbury and the Watford Liberal Democrats are currently running a petition to be presented to the London Assembly to rezone Watford stations, which can be signed here http://www.watfordlibdems.org/watford_junction_rezone
