In a bid to save money, Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) will close a number of family centres across the county, including one in Rickmansworth.
On November 9, councillors agreed to de-designate family centres in little use and assign them to other council-run initiatives, a choice estimated to save approximately £251,195 a year.
This will affect a total of 26 family centres, including Rickmansworth Family Centre, located on Shepherds Lane.
According to councillor Paula Hiscocks, HCC’s deputy executive member for children, young people and families, and representative of Rickmansworth West: “The family centre set to close in Rickmansworth is only used for office space.
“Post-COVID, we’ve seen how important it is to get people back into the community by having services which are accessible and held in accessible places. This is about looking at the assets held by HCC and getting best value for money.
“But none of the family services we offer in Rickmansworth will suffer from the relocation of these office spaces.”
