Council tax will increase by 4.99 per cent after Hillingdon Council agreed its new budget for the 2024/25 financial year.
At a meeting at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge on Thursday, February 22, a new five-year spending plan was agreed.
Several major new financial investments were announced, with highlights including £42million for repairs of roads and pavements, £18.5million for improvements to school buildings,
£11.7million for provision and school spaces for children with special educational needs and disabilities, and £10.5million for care home capacity.
Despite the increase in tax, the borough still has some of the lowest levels of fees in London.
Councillor Martin Goddard, cabinet member for finance, said: “While Hillingdon continues to face the same acute budgetary pressures as other local authorities, what sets this council apart from others, who have declared or are on the verge of bankruptcy, is our record of sound financial management.
“Our effective savings delivery programme continues to deliver value for money and ensure that residents don’t pay as much as other boroughs.”
