The Museum of St Albans has moved since the first edition of STALBANSnews was published in 2015, when we reported on artist Lyndell Phelps exhibiting a collection of historic artefacts.
Now situated in the Old Town Hall, and renamed St Albans Museum + Gallery since its reopening in 2018, the museum continues to thrive and has welcomed more than 900,000 visitors.
Audience development manager Catherine Newley, who has worked at the museum for 11 years, said: “St Albans has a rich history, and our exhibitions aim to share stories that people have forgotten.
“A lot has changed in the last eight years. We’ve seen funding and investment from the National Lottery Community Fund and Arts Council England, which has allowed us to employ more staff, do more things, and engage with more people.
“One of our main aims is to be a welcoming space where people can meet friends and socialise.”
The museum has kept the artefacts from its predecessor and continues to rotate and exhibit them – a luxury that has only come with the new location, as well as an increase in staff.
