The head teacher of a Croxley Green school says she is very proud of the whole school community after it was rated ‘outstanding’ following a recent Ofsted inspection. Malvern Way Infant & Nursery School got the top rating after an inspection last month and Janet English said she was thrilled at the results. She explained: “We have a highly talented and dedicated staff team, highly effective governors, wonderful children and a very supportive parent body. I was also pleased that strong teamwork was recognised as the key to the school’s success with all the staff pulling together and learning from each other.” The school was graded ‘outstanding’ in each of the four categories: achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management. Inspectors observed 16 lessons, six of which were observed jointly with the Head teacher or Deputy Head teacher. Meetings were held with groups of pupils, school staff, and members of the Governing Body. A telephone conversation was undertaken with a representative from the local authority. Inspectors also took account of the 145 responses to the online parent questionnaire and held informal discussions with parents at the start of the school day. Ofsted also found that disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs also made outstanding progress. The report read: “Their needs are carefully identified, and highly effective programmes are put in place to help them meet their targets.” The school has been commended for its strong leadership and clear vision for the education of the pupils. When speaking of the governors, Ofsted said: “They are very thoughtful and have a very clear rationale for their work. They are acutely aware of the school’s strengths and how improvement has been achieved, including to teaching and learning.” The school was rated ‘good’ in its previous inspection which took place in 2009.
