A Pinner resident was been crowned Adults Sports Person of the Year in a special ceremony last month.

Reshad Saraj, who has cerebral palsy and is a wheelchair user and plays the Paralympic sport of Boccia, was nominated for his achievements in the sport at the Ealing Sports Awards.

After discovering the sport at the age of 18, Reshad joined club PACE which promotes the inclusion of disabled people in sport and has been playing ever since.

Reshad has performed well in several competitions and has won a number of medals including gold in Poland.

He said: “I was privileged to have been shortlisted, by the Ealing Council and Everyone Active panel of judges, along with such local giants in their own sports such as Darcy Griffin – Netball, David Paul – Sailing, and Patris Mughalzai – Boxing and it was an honour to have been chosen to receive this award and I would like to thank my team of PAs, coaches and, of course, my Mum for supporting me through thick and thin.

“It’s great that this type of achievement raises the awareness of Boccia and hopefully attracts more audience and athletes to the sport I play.”
