A young fencer from Northwood helped to lead his squad to victory in a prestigious competition last month.
Casey Jones, 15, who represented Wales in the Commonwealth Games last summer, was part of a squad which recently took home The Cadet Winton Cup. This was the first time the Eastern Region had won the title in 35 years.
Taking place at Millfield School in Somerset on December 17 and 18, the annual tournament was founded by Sir Nicholas Winton MBE, who organised a rescue operation in 1938 to bring hundreds of Czech children at risk of being murdered by Nazi Germany to safety.
Casey said he was delighted to be selected as team captain for the competition.
He said: “It was an absolute honour to be selected to captain the Eastern Region’s Men’s epee team for Cadet Winton. I was immensely proud to compete at an event honouring one of the greatest British Holocaust heroes, whose selfless acts saved 669 children.”
