Northwood and Ruislip area residents may vividly remember Hillingdon Council’s controversial decision to close the Rural Activities Garden Centre (RAGC) in Uxbridge last year.
The centre stopped trading on Thursday, July 31, 2025, which led to a significant demonstration of 100 people outside the Civic Centre.
In January, the Friends of RAGC created a petition in hopes of taking Hillingdon Council to court, after the council failed to nominate the centre as an Asset of Community Value.
For those who regularly used the community hub, it was a lifeline for adults with learning disabilities and autism for 40 years.
Hillingdon Council responded to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews: “The council will consider formally listing the Rural Activities Garden Centre as an Asset of Community Value later this month.
“This is a complex process; however, a conclusive decision is now imminent, and this has been published publicly on the council’s forward plan.”
The initial target for funds towards the court proceedings was £9,750, yet the petition had raised over £12,000 by Monday, January 12.
