COMMUNITY SPIRIT: A tribute to Abbots Langley neighbours

Published on: 16th April 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

The trying times of late have certainly brought out the best of the Abbots Langley community and neighbours across the village are paying tribute to one another.

A perfect example of this comes from John and Alison Warner, of Follett Drive.

They said: “We have loved taking part in the community ‘clapping for the NHS’ every Thursday evening. It gets noisier each week as more people join in with pots and pans etc.

“As we are self-isolating for, maybe, many more weeks, it is a wonderful way to keep in touch with our neighbours and their families. We have four nurses in our road, one in Intensive Care at Watford General and a neighbour’s daughter who is a doctor, so they get a very special round of applause.

“We have also been cheered up by three girls, who live in Langley Lane, who have decorated the paving on the driveway (pictured). They are Lillie-Grace (12), Phoebe-Rose (eight) and Isla-Mai (five). It looked so amazing that we sent them a card to thank them for making us to thank them for their hard work. We then received two beautiful cards; backs decorated with rainbows. So now we have made new friends in these difficult times.

“What a lovely community we live in here in Abbots Langley.”

Another example of community spirit can be seen in a quote from the most recent newsletter of the Furtherfield Residents’ Association, which read: “Can we say a big thank you to the many people who stepped forward and volunteered to help others, as a result of the appeal in our last newsletter. It was warming to see how willing many residents are willing to put themselves out, to help those in need.

“At this testing time, we thank our residents for showing the true meaning of caring in the community.”
