Church group preparing for fundraising Malawi trip

Published on: 19th January 2018   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Uncategorized

A group of volunteers from a church in Abbots Langley are preparing to visit Malawi later this year.

The group from St Lawrence Church will be visiting Malosa to work alongside the communities at the hospital, school, nursery and church to help them realise some of their hopes for the present and the future. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and is heavily reliant on assistance from outside to provide even the most basic quality of life.

Plans for the trip, which will take place in the summer, are well underway. An appeal to raise £10,000 to fund resources and materials for the projects they will be working on and to date, over £7,000 has been raised.

Now the group is asking local people to help it reach its fundraising target to fund resources and materials for the projects they will be working on.

In addition to financial contributions, these are other ways in which local people can help.

The group is looking for knitted or nearly-new childrens blankets for the maternity hospital and animal hand-puppets for use by nursery children – puppet patterns are available from the church office, details below.)

The group is also keen to hear from anyone who has links with any building suppliers that might offer discounts on new tools, so that it can assist the maintenance teams in the communities it will be working with.

Finally the group is keen to hear from anyone who has good quality items to sell on e-bay? The proceeds will be added to the fundraising total.
