CHRISTMAS COLLAGE: Children’s unique festive artwork to be displayed in Croxley library

Published on: 24th December 2024   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Croxley resident who founded her own business wants to help children “explore their talents by creating unique pieces”.

Hanim Karahan’s love for textiles and creativity was ignited by spending her childhood at her dad’s clothing manufacturing business. She says that making little purses from excess materials, finding buttons in big industrial drawers and learning to crochet with her mum are “memories that will stay with me forever”.

Three years ago, Hanim combined her passion for fashion and years of experience in childcare to launch KKTS Textile Studio.

In after-school and holiday clubs, children from local schools are taught fabric techniques such as sewing, printmaking and wet felting.

Now, a new collage has been installed at Croxley Green Library, bringing together artwork made by local students who have taken part in Hanim’s workshops.

Currently, the children are also creating a range of keyrings to sell for Great Ormond Street Hospital’s ‘Build it. Beat it’ fundraiser. The money raised will go towards building a new, world-leading children’s cancer centre at the hospital.

Students have also been busy making cards for children who are spending the Christmas period at Watford General Hospital, where a second collage is also set to be installed.

Speaking to CROXLEYnews about her students’ work this season, Hanim shared: “They are over the moon. By giving back, I could see it made [the children] feel happy and fulfilled.”

The collage will be displayed at Croxley Green Library from Friday, December 20.

Hanim also hosts a range of creative sessions for adults and children. For more information, please visit www.kkts-textilestudio.co.uk
