A thief has been jailed after he stole more than £5,000 worth of chocolate and other items from nine different shops.

Ionut Rova, 20, of Rutland Road, Harrow, targeted supermarkets in seven different counties, including Buckinghamshire. He stole from nine Tesco shops and one Aldi between August 2024 and January 2025.

Rova was jailed for 10 weeks at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Monday, February 17. He was told his sentence would be 45 weeks if he had not admitted to the 10 thefts.

He stole £800 worth of items from Tesco in Amersham, £600 worth of chocolates from Tesco in Princes Risborough, and £500 worth of confectionary from Tesco in Faringdon.

Rova’s final theft took place on Saturday, January 18, when he stole £238.14 of items from Aldi in Wokingham, Berkshire.

During the period of thefts, Thames Valley Police stepped up anti-shoplifting efforts. These included shop patrols in Chalfont St Giles and Chalfont St Peter which aimed to deter and disrupt criminal activity.
