This month, over 20 men from St Albans walked in excess of 110km along the Ulster Way in Northern Ireland, as part of local cricket club Garden Fields’ latest charity trek.
Having already raised lots in a previous charity walk in 2019, the men were raring to go, having had to postpone the annual event due to the COVID pandemic. To make up for lost time, the group supported two charities this year.
These will be the British Red Cross’ Ukraine Crisis Appeal and the Northern Ireland Hospice. At the time of writing, they have already raised £3,000.
More than £80,000 has been raised in previous years, with the group having trekked across the Isle of Wight, through Devon and southern England’s famous Ridgeway path.
Spokesperson for the group, Trevor Merriden, said: “We could not undertake an event this year without supporting the plight of people in Ukraine In these desperate times.
“And as with previous years, we also wanted to continue our efforts to support hospices local to our walking route – hospices have cared for those close to us and provided amazing support for friends and family.”
