A Pinner community group is calling for volunteers to help run monthly tea parties for older people who may otherwise experience loneliness and social isolation.
The gatherings are organised through Re-engage, a national charity which connects older people with volunteers and provides opportunities to socialise regularly.
Locally, the scheme is supported by Harrow & Pinner Lions Club, a volunteer community organisation serving Harrow and Pinner. The club is part of Lions Clubs International, whose local groups raise money and volunteer to support charitable causes and community members.
Harrow and Pinner Lions member Vivien Raggett has coordinated the Harrow Re-engage group for 18 years, arranging hosts and volunteer drivers as well as checking availability among guests aged 75 to 95.
The monthly gatherings offer conversation, tea and company. Some attendees who live alone regard the meetings as a highlight of their month.
Organisers are currently looking for more volunteers to host the gatherings with a shortage of venues currently occurring.
